Passkeys
Passwordless sign-in for CLEAR accounts — faster, safer access built on passkeys and woven into the account experience.
An account is only as good as how easily — and safely — a member can get into it. Bringing passkeys to CLEAR replaces passwords with device-based authentication, making sign-in faster while raising the security floor for every member.
Passwords are the weakest and most frustrating part of any account: forgotten, reused, and phishable. For a trust-and-identity company like CLEAR, leaning on them was misaligned with the brand's whole premise.
I designed the passkey experience across the account — enrollment, sign-in, and management — making a genuinely new authentication model feel familiar and trustworthy rather than technical.
I mapped every point a member touches their credentials, then designed passkey enrollment as a natural step inside account setup and settings. I focused on plain-language explanation, clear fallback paths, and management controls that live alongside the rest of a member's account information.
From their account, a member sets up a passkey in a few taps and signs in afterward with Face ID or their device — no password to remember, and their security details sit right beside the rest of their profile.
Passkeys are unfamiliar to most people, so the design had to explain a new model without jargon, handle multi-device and recovery edge cases gracefully, and interoperate with platform authentication on both iOS and Android.
Passkeys make CLEAR accounts faster to enter and harder to compromise — replacing passwords with device-based sign-in, presented in language and flows members already trust.
